Vaccinations… are always in the news at this time of year, so get ready for the big media fear mongering, guilt laden, peer pressure push. Last year, the flu vaccine was only 17% effective, and many people reported getting the flu from the shot! My main issue with vaccines is the mercury in them, the effects of which cause nerve damage and can increase the chance of Alzheimer’s disease. Personally, I would rather die from the flu than from Alzheimer’s. Another problem is the aluminum (a heavy metal) that can cross the blood brain barrier. This, too, has been implicated in Alzheimer’s disease. Consumers have become desensitized to the fact that these chemicals are shot directly into the blood stream. If the pharmaceutical industry really wanted to protect the population, they would sell vaccines that are NOT harmful. Sometimes vaccines can be inhaled or consumed which is preferred. As soon as you know you’ve ‘been exposed’ to the flu virus, other options include taking Oscillococcinum, cod liver oil, Congaplex, or Immuplex.
Acupuncture treatment for high blood pressure… has been researched and shown to be effective in lowering it. The study involved sixty-six patients with hypertension that were not taking any drugs. Half (33) the subjects were given electro-acupuncture on both sides of the inner wrist and between the knees (the right places) and the other half were given electro-acupuncture on points that were ‘wrong’ for high blood pressure. Seventy percent of the subjects that were given the correct treatment showed a lowered blood pressure by 6-8 mm/HG in Systolic and 4 in diastolic.
Gout and food… have a close relationship. People with gout often say that their symptoms worsen when they eat tomatoes. One New Zealand study asked the subjects to report what they perceived as triggers that made their symptoms worse. Seventy-one percent reported one or more triggers, and of those, twenty percent listed tomatoes. That data was then combined with the research data from three long term U.S. studies that contained similar statistics. It was found that tomatoes are triggers, along with red meat, seafood, alcohol, and sugary drinks. Tomatoes are acidic and increase the acidity in the blood causing mineral deposits in the feet, where the body temperature is generally coolest. Potassium can counter the effect of eating too much acidic food, and can easily be consumed in dark, green vegetables, either cooked or raw. Fresh, “just picked” tomatoes are less acidic than those that have been off the plant for more than an hour. Although red wine is healthy in small quantities because of resveratrol and anthocyanin, its acidity makes drinking it inadvisable for some people. Deep purple, real grape juice has both resveratrol and anthocyanin and is less acidic. It is quite sweet however, so diabetics have to be careful of it.
Fighting viruses with lemon juice… works to block the spread of viruses and bacteria that cause gastric bugs like norovirus. Norovirus is extremely contagious and causes violent sudden diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea. Outbreaks have occurred in hospitals and schools, and on cruise ships. The virus spreads from contaminated hands on food. Just a few drops of lemon juice sprinkled on your food and your hands are helpful to fight this kind of virus. Fruit extracts from oranges and pomegranates also have anti-viral properties.
Psychiatric drugs can be dangerous… according to the book Deadly Psychiatry and Organized Denial by Professor Peter C.Gotzsche. In it, he says that psychiatric drugs for insomnia, depression and anxiety are now the third major cause of death in western nations. Specifically, anti-psychotic drugs increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and cancer, while anti-depressants increase the risk of falling and potential for irregular heartbeat. The suicide rate for people taking these drugs is fifteen times higher than for those who aren’t taking them.
The human body has many mysteries… that still confound understanding. It’s not an overstatement to say that every part of your body is some kind of miracle. Here are some facts that you will probably find interesting.
►It’s possible to survive without a surprisingly large fraction of internal organs; the stomach, spleen, 75% of the liver, 80% of the intestines, one kidney, one lung, and virtually every organ from the pelvic/groin area. You wouldn’t be very healthy, but you would live.
►During a lifetime, enough saliva is produced to fill two swimming pools. Saliva is important because if it cannot dissolve something you eat, you cannot taste it.
►The largest cell is the female egg; the smallest is the male sperm. The egg is the only cell in the body visible to the naked eye.
►The strongest muscle is the tongue and the hardest bone is the jawbone.
►Human feet have 26 bones in each foot, totaling 52 for both. This accounts for one-fourth of all the bones in the body.
►Feet have 500,000 sweat glands and can produce more than a pint of perspiration a day.
►Stomach acid is strong enough to dissolve razor blades! It is prevented from damaging the stomach lining by the frequent renewing of the cells of the stomach wall. A new stomach lining is produced every three to four days.
► Sneezes regularly exceed 100mph, while coughs clock in at about 60mph.
►The body emits enough heat in thirty minutes to boil a half gallon of water.
►Earwax production is necessary for good ear health. It protects the inner ear from bacteria, fungus, dirt and even insects. It cleans and lubricates the ear canal.
►Everyone has a unique scent, except for identical twins, who share the same scent.
►Teeth start growing six months before birth. This is why one out of every 2,000 newborns has a tooth when they are born.
►Out of the entire population, less than one third has 20/20 vision.
►The nose can remember 50,000 different scents. Women have a more sensitive and sense of smell than men throughout life.
►The human body is estimated to have 60,000 miles of blood vessels.
►Pregnant women often dream about frogs, worms and potted plants. Scientists don’t know why and attribute it to the shifting hormones.
The Community Health Fair… will be hosted by Pikes Peak Regional Hospital on Saturday, Oct 10th, from 8:30am until noon. Come see us at our booth there! We have become quite popular so come early.
